FOX13 questions activity at shuttered American Car Center | News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Six days after American Car Center closed its doors unexpectedly and fired hundreds of employees, FOX13 observed several people on site who said they were securing the property.

When asked if he was with American Car Center, one man said, “I’m not anymore” and then asked the FOX13 crew to leave the property.

Last Friday, 288 employees learned via email that they lost their jobs as their shift ended, one former employee said.

“It’s very, very unprofessional,” said Lakisha Devine, who worries about the payments on her 2017 Chevy Track. “It’s unprofessional, because you’re not thinking about the livelihood of those employees.”

In the meantime, FOX13 approached the president of the company, Noah Hogan, at his Germantown home.

“Can you answer for the nearly 300 people who lost their jobs?” asked the FOX13 news crew.

No one answered the door, but someone did call the police on the news crew.

“Did they say anything to you?” the officer asked the reporter and photographer.

“They did not say anything to us,” said reporter Kate Bieri. “We walked onto the property to ask for their comment on the story.”

Looking for ways to pay?

In the meantime, the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance alerted the public that American Car Center “has addressed all technical issues for payment receipt.”

“The three methods listed below are the ONLY methods ensured to credit their account,” wrote a spokesman for the state. “American Car Center customers should NOT trust any deviation from one of these methods.”

Here are the following ways to pay:

  • Pay online through the state’s payment portal: amfinancial.com
  • Pay by phone by calling 877-720-4477
  • Pay in person at CheckFreePay locations, which can be found here: bit.ly/3KThk7Y.
